Blog #2 Slaughtering Animals

  1. In this blog I will write about slaughtering animals. In the video I just now viewed was very brutal and very heart broken, because of how the workers in the factories or farms torture their animals. And the way they do it is in way you don't want to be a meat eater any more. You just want to eat vegetables for the rest of your life. For example, the way they kill the chickens they slice their necks with a blade that haves their blood spilled all over the place, also have their necks broken, go through machines that makes them paralyzed, but not conscious, and they even go through getting knocked in the head with a hammer. They even have it where male chicks are killed in a grinding machine, while they are still alive. And another method is they have the male chicks suffocate in a plastic garbage bag.Now for the female chicks they go through with cutting parts of their beaks with a hot blade, and they would have them in small cages where they would spend the rest their lives in.
  2. Farmers will have it where the young cows go through mutilation, cut off their tails, sent away from their mothers to be transported to slaughter houses. This be happening to them in the most unsanitary diseased factories that they are being slaughtered at. The sickly cows just lye around in their misery without any care in the world. Workers also slice their throat while they are still alive. This kind of cruelty isn't called for, but in order for us to survive we got do what we got to do to feast on the animals.
  3. For the pigs that are pregnant they are in narrow cages that are not their size, so it is very uncomfortable for them. They can hardly move around anywhere. Workers take the mother pig's babies and cuts out their testicles, slice their tails off, knocks their heads to the ground when they don't grow quickly enough or when they are sick. All society should make a change for the animals sake to eat more healthy and to let the animals live a better life. In order for us to help the needs of the animals we have to put in better care.

The introduction of Daniel Imhoff's The CAFO Reader

In this blog I will discuss about the introduction from the book called, The CAFO Reader. In this book they have it where they discuss of how they treat their animals on farms. And when they move on to the factories. Animals are being "domesticated", according to what Imhoff"s saying, "Our domesticated livestock have never been as cruelly confined slaughtered in such massive quantities in all of history". This quote is important because Imhoff never knew that there will be horrible treatment towards the animals. And how the people in the united states are treating the animals in a way to torture them and taking control of them. Since the people has them as their property they are going to treat them how ever they want. People in our days are now making animals bigger than what they are before, so the people can have bigger meat products. For example they have it where the animals can't handle their own weight, when ever they move around to a certain area around the farm. In the farms they have it where the animals are in small farms stuck together in one area of the farm. Also they have "antibiotics" for the animals. Here, Imhoff's ideas are important because, "these problems were countered with a second technological development essential to the CAFO system-regular doses of antibiotics (or antimicrobial medicines) in feed and water to fight off infectious pathogens and promote weight gain". This quote is important because, they have it where the people use medicines to get rid of the diseases that the animals may have that makes them sick and the people that are going to eat them. Also the medicine is suppose to help gain the animals weight, when it comes to getting them the size people want them to be. Now people are having a debate on how the animals are being treated in the farms by their farmers. Here, Imhoff's ideas are important because, the CAFO industry argues that while such practices may seem cruel to some they done to benefit the health and welfare of the animals and to provide an abundant and safe food supply for a hungry planet". This quote is important because, people are finding a way to provide a much safer way for the people on earth to enjoy their food without any difficulties. So they find different kinds of sources to make the animals more healthier for the sake of the people's health. So now people are constantly giving the animals antibiotics for their health. Here, Imhoff's ideas are important because," Inside the CAFO, animals are routinely administered antibiotics whether they need them or not". This quote is important because, even though some animals don't need the medication the people of the united states want to be on the safe side for health purposes. And they could be more careful  for what they sell to the people in markets. And some of the new diseases are being associated with the CAFO system, so this is why we should make it safe for health purposes in the united states. The CAFOs are dealing with certain areas of the planet that deals with their  farm animals in a way that is massive for the people to deal with. They have so much that it becomes a waste. For example, "The New York Times reported in 2008 that Iowa's 5,000 confinement hog facilities generate over 50 million tons of raw waste, or 16.7 tons of animal manure for every resident". This quote is important because, why use so much? if you know it's going to be a waste. People is not going to want to sponsor the business that is going on for you. Also the CAFOs have it where they are large to collect their waste for when the small and medium farms are collecting their money expenses for themselves. CAFOs more as farms more than as an industry. Here, Imhoff's ideas are important because, "essentially giving them a free pass on certain air, water, and solid waste emissions, and in many cases, exempting them from animal cruelty legislation". This quote is important because, people that are in the business are trying to make the farmers life more simple by having it where they are easily getting the amount of nature they need for their animals. Also they are trying to have the people on the farms not put so much harm to the animals. Now their are industries that are successful that they are on another level of the state. They are making it where they are going to make the farms more available for the industries to notice what they are accomplishing with their animals. And they also made it where the people can take pictures of the CAFOs without having the ability to ask for the owners consent. So they could take it where the people in the public could see what is going on with the business.
